William McDonald was a son of Peter Burkhart (Burkhardt), (1785-1868) and Ann (Gillum) Burkhart (1801-1889) who had settled in Sullivan County, Tennessee, then Knox County, Tennessee in the 1820's. Emmanuel, b.Dec 19, 1875, frequently went by the name of Taylor E. Burkhart as an adult. He met, courted and then married Johnanna Webb (1877-1925) on July 14th, 1893 in Knoxville, Tennessee. The couple purchased a home which was paid for in full by 1920.
Emmanuel was the deputy sheriff of Knox County for many years. He and Johnanna had the following children:
Bruce Elmer Burkhart, (1894-1964)
Frances Ethel (Burkhart) Needham (1896-1980)
Mary Ruth (Burkhart) Armstrong (1899-1992)
Gladys Mae (Burkhart) Thompson (1901-1989)
Hazel Elizabeth (Burkhart) Cruze (1904-1991)
Henrietta "Etta" Burkhart (1907-2002)
Lafe Taylor Burkhart (1914-1997)
Pauline Elsie Burkhart (1915-2002)
Anna Webb Burkhart (1919-1922)
The couple had no further children together as Johnanna had been 42 yrs. old when she'd had Anna and her health was becoming fragile. She had given birth to nine children from the age of 17, a span of 26 years. Johnanna passed away on September 8th, 1925 at the age of 48 years and was buried at Asbury Cemetery in Knoxville under the name "Anna Burkhart".
Emmanuel Taylor remarried January 17, 1926 to Lula Frances Haun (1901-1991) of Knox County. She was a daughter of Erastus Haun and Iva Magnolia Burkhart Haun (1879-1940). He and Lula had five children, two daughters and three sons. They were:

Emmanuel Taylor Burkhart, Jr. (1929-1958)
McDonald "Mack" Burkhart (1930-1937), who was tragically hit by a truck while on his way to school. And
John Wesley Burkhart (1934-1935), who, so very sadly, died in early childhood.
Emmanuel Taylor Burkhart, Sr. died on October 1st, 1938, just a few months before his 65th birthday. He was the father of 14 children, having been married twice. He was buried at Asbury Cemetery, Knoxville, Knox County, Tennessee under the name "E. Taylor Burkhart". His 2nd wife, Lula, never remarried and lived until June of 1991, to the age of 88 years.
