Rowena "Ronnie" James, 97, passed away Friday, January 23, 2009 in Greeley, Colorado.

Ronnie was born on January 23, 1912 in Vernal, Utah, to Philip Crouch and Ella Jane (Wimmer) Stringham. She was the oldest of ten children and graduated from Uintah High School.

Rowena married Melvin D. James on November 19, 1936 in Salt Lake City, Utah. They divorced in 1961. She received her Registered Nursing degree from the Thomas Dee Memorial School of Nursing in Ogden, Utah on June 1, 1939.

She worked from 1957 to 1961 as a nurse for the Marquardt Corporation. From 1961 until her retirement in 1976, she worked at the Utah State Industrial School caring for juvenile inmates. She also worked as a private duty nurse in the Ogden area.

Known to her friends as "Ronnie", she remained a Utah resident until September 2001 when she moved to Greeley, Colorado. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She enjoyed gardening in her yard and caring for her houseplants. She especially enjoyed her 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Philip Crouch and Ella Jane (Wimmer) Stringham, son, Phillip Albert James, brothers, Ralph Philip Stringham, Phil Bryant Stringham, sisters, Ethelwynne White and Barta Place.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, January 31, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at the Roy City – Stoker Memorial Cemetery, 5200 South 2300 West, Roy. Friends may gather on Saturday at Myers Roy Mortuary, 5865 South 1900 West from 12:00 noon to 12:45 p.m. prior to services.
