Dorothy Bartelle Cross 95 of Lagrande died monday at a local care center.
A graveside sevice will be at 11 a.m. thursday at the Summerville Cemetery with the Reverand Bill Miller of Valley Fellowship officiating. Friends may call fron 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Daniels Chapel of the valley, 1502 seventh street Lagrande.
Mrs. Cross was born June 3 1906 , to David and Minnie Stevens Wink in Walla Walla. When she was 6 her family moved to Elgin, Where became class president and valedictorian of her 1934 high school class.
she taught one term of shool at Catherine Creek near Union.
She Married Walter Cross in Elgin on June 14 1925 and they lived in logging camps near Wallowa and Enterprise for three years where she cut logs with a Crosscut saw and drove a logging team of horses.
After that they returned to farm on Pumpkin Ridge for five years before moving back to Elgin in 1934. Mr Cross Died April 26 1981.
Mrs. Cross liked flowers and gardening and always had a pretty yard. She liked to travel.
Survivors include her son Raymond Cross of Elgin; a Daughter, Beverly Horton of mesa Arizona, Three Granddaughters, two great granddaughters; and other relatives. An infant Brother died earlier.
Memorials may be made to the Oregon Heart Association in care of Daniels Chapel of the Valley.
