Columbus, Neb. - J. "Otto" Osten, 82, of 3215 20th street, died Friday night (July 9) at his home. He had been ill the past year. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 9:15 a.m. at the Gass Funeral Home and at 10 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod. The Rev. George Schubarth will officiate, and burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.

He was born Feb. 4, 1883, in Platte County, the son of August and Anna (Hagelman) Osten. He attended Adamy school and St. John's school. Mr. Osten was married to Ida Hoefelman June 11, 1908 at St. John's church by the Rev. E. Holm. They farmed one mile west of the church until 1949, when they retired and moved to Columbus. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod, and was baptized and confirmed in that congregation.

Mr. Osten is survived by his wife; three sons, Paul of Humphrey, and Lawrence and Julius of Columbus; five daughters, Mrs. Martin (Hilda) Hellbusch of Creston; Mrs. Lynn (Olga) Johnson of San Diego, Calif.; Mrs. John (Ruth) Allen of Oakdale, Calif.: Mrs. Albert (Verna) Hellbusch of Columbus, and Mrs. Robert F. (Ellen) Henry of Hampton, S. C., 25 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; and one brother, John of Omaha. He was preceded in death by his parents; one infant son; two brothers, Louis and Herman of Columbus; and two sisters, Mrs. Augusta Brockman of Creston and Mrs. Mary Brandt of Platte Center.
