Lawrence married Marjorie Bachmann on December 29, 1943 at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Creston, Nebraska. He lived and farmed in Platte County until 1991, when he retired and moved to Columbus. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church where he had served on the board as a trustee and was an elder. He also served on the school board and was a member of the Lutheran Layman's League.
