Married July 18, 1832 in Clinton, Jones County, GA, to George Washington Dillingham. He died in 1834, and she married April 3, 1838 at Trinity Episcopal Church in Columbus, GA, to Rev. William Douglas Cairns.

COLUMBUS, GA: Lists of People, 1828-1852, and Sexton's Reports to 1866 by Mary Jane Galer (published 2000), on page 243 says Mrs. L. E. Cairnes, born in con. (Connecticut), died age 49 of Pneumonia and buried May 15, 1864 (from April 1 to July 1, 1864, the Sexton report, presented July 4, 1864). John H. Martin's history of Columbus, Volume 2, p. 172 says Mrs. Lucy E. Cairnes

The Dolores Autry Historic Linwood Cemetery book, Volume 3, p. 44 says the birth date on this grave is Aug. 20, 1854, died age 50. She misread the year on the stone, the date is August 20, 1834, and age should be 30. Autry reports the following from Biographical Souvenir of the States of Georgia and Florida, F. A. Battey & Co., Chicago, 1889, p. 236: George W. Dillingham was born in Berkshire Co., Mass. in 1805, the s/o Nathan Dillingham who was born near Boston. He married Lucy E. Ticknor, who was born in 1814 in Norwich, CT, the d/o Orray Ticknor, M.D., a native of New Jersey. They had one son, George W. Dillingham who was born July 28, 1833.
