Death: 10 SEP 1823 in Columbus, Muscogee, Georgia (sic)
Above from Linda Farmer Ames 2/5/2012
[Place of death above is incorrect. Wondering if his remains later brought to Columbus for re-interment, or if he is instead still buried somewhere else, making this a memorial-only monument ?]
Autry Historic Linwood Cemetery book, edited by Dowd & others, Volume 3, p. 44 says from the American Mercury Newspaper (Connecticut) on October 14, 1823: Died at Fortville, Jones County, GA, on the 10th ultimo, in the 33d year of his age (so 32 years old), Dr. Orray Ticnknor, a native of Connecticut (however, the Biographical Souvenir of the States of GA & FL, 1889, says he was born in NJ). Also, from the Descendants of William Ticknor of Scituate and Other Immigrants named Ticknor & Tickner, by James Melville Hunnewell, Boston, 1919: Orray "Orra" Ticknor married Harriet Coolidge (6/30/1793--10/9/1854), the d/o Henry Joseph Coolidge and Lucy Jones. He was a physician and moved to Savannah about 1815, then moved to Fortville, Jones Co, GA.
