Obiturary (13 Sep 1906)
Elizabeth Ankney(nee Steinmann) was born Feb, 11th 1826 in Carroll County, Ohio.
When a child of 7 years her home was removed to Tuscarawas County, and at the age of 13 came to this county (Paulding) in 1853, livining in the immediate vicinity of her late home for the past 53 years. Her christian parents, Jacob and Susanna Steinmann, brought her to baptism in early infancy. She made the confession of the Lutheran Church her own and was confirmed. A. D. 1842, Ohio Christmas Day. In the year 1846 she united in holy matrimony with Christian Ankney. This union was blessed with 12 children, 9 sons and 3 daughters. Her earthly career was finished Ohion Thursday morning Sept. 6, when her soul departed for the better life. Her health having failed for many years, being in danger of her life many times within the past few years the Lord spared her and only about a week before the end did her afflictions take such an appeal that death was apparent.
Her sufferins were intens and of long duration but in her childlike confidence in her Savior she remained ever cheerful with an unlimited love and kindenss towards everyone. For the past 12 years she made her home with her son Daniel, the entire household untiringly ministering to her in her affliction. Deceased reached the age of 60yrs. 6mo. and 15 days. Her husband preceded her to yonder home, who died in 1892. She leave to mourn her death 4 sons, 2 stepsons, 1 stepdaughter, 15 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. She now rests from her labor and may her work follow her! Funeral services were held Suday morning Sept. 9th, at 10o'clock at Zion's Lutheran church Emeral Township, Rev Theo. Strauses officiating. Interment, in the Lutheran Cemetery which belons to the church, and which is located Ohio land her family owned when she came to this county.
Her death leaves, but one person residing in her neighborhood of the pioneers who located there the same year she came.
