Maxine Weddington Fuqua, 92, of Vinton, Va., died on Tuesday, February 10, 2009. She was a member of Thrasher Memorial United Methodist Church and the Pedigo Bible Class. Mrs. Fuqua was a member of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, where she served as a Recording and Corresponding Secretary. She was an avid gardener and was a member and Past President of the Rainbow Forest Garden Club. She was also a member and bluebird nesting box monitor for the Roanoke Valley Bird Club. She was very devoted to her family. Mrs. Fuqua is survived by a daughter, Eleanor Virginia Dye; one sister, Elizabeth Weddington Brooks, of Roanoke; a brother, William Edward Weddington, of Richmond; two nieces, Dana Brooks Tarrant and Kimberlyn Weddington Hughes; one nephew, William David Weddington; three great-nieces and nephews; stepdaughter, Edith Given Dye; and stepson, Franklin Wesley Dye, both of Lexington, Ky. A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. on Friday, February 13, 2009, at St. Timothy Lutheran Church, 1201 Hardy Road with Pastor Judy Tavela officiating. Burial will follow in Fair View Cemetery, Roanoke. Flowers are appreciated or memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association. The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 12, 2009, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Oakey's Vinton Chapel, 540-982-2221.
