Carol Sideris Bailey, 68, died peacefully Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2009, after a long illness. A native of New Jersey, Carol and her husband moved to Massachusetts in 1962, where among other things, she graduated from Jackson College, part of Tufts University, and worked as payroll manager for Little Brown Publishers. In 1966, she moved back to New Jersey when her husband entered dental school. In 1973, they bought a home in Watchung where she resided until her death. Carol was very active in the Greek Orthodox community of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, Westfield, acting as Sunday school director and teacher for 20 years, as a member, treasurer, and president of the Philoptochos Society, a church philanthropic group; and for many years, as organizer and co-chair of the annual Greek Festival and Merry Market.
Carol leaves her husband of 45 years, Sam; a daughter, Kim; two sons, Peter and David; five grandsons and a granddaughter; a sister, Helene; two brothers, George and Peter; and many, many friends.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6, 2009 at the Costello-Koyen Funeral Home, 399 Avenel St., Avenel. A Funeral Liturgy will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009 at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, Westfield. Entombment will be in Woodbridge Memorial Gardens, Woodbridge. Her passing leaves a big hole in our lives. She will be best remembered by a donation to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 250 Gallows Hill Road, Westfield, NJ 07090-1109.
