AT REST
St. Columbkill Church, Belle Creek, has lost one of its most exemplary and esteemed young men in the death of Mr. James Maher, who died on Sunday last of typhoid pneumonia, in the 21st year of his life. Deceased was visited frequently by his pastor, Father McDevitt during his short and painful sickness and only a short time elapsed after he received the last benediction when he resigned his pure soul into the hands of its creator. He was a young man whose purity of life, integrity of character, and spirit of generous instincts endeared him to all about him. The casket containing his remains was brought to the church last Tuesday covered with floral tributes and placed on a catafalque, surrounded with lighted tapers. A beautiful crown of choice exotice was placed on the bier by a warm friend and admirer of his manly virtue. The mass of requiem was chanted and a well merited tribute to the sterling virtue of the deceased was paid at the close of the sermon by the pastor who spoke feelingly of the edifying example which he gave during his short life, by being faithful to his religious duties and leave to the young men of the parish an example of a Christian life. After the absolution was pronounced his remains were then borne to their last resting place in the quiet country churchyard near the church and there with the benediction of the priest and the prayers of the multitude of mourning but hopeful friends, peacefully interred. The temperance society attended the obsequice in a body. The much respected parents of the deceased have the sympathy of the entire congregation. He was their only son. Requiescat In Pace.
