ST. ANTHONY -- Boyd Norlyn Yancey, 79, of St. Anthony, died Sunday, Aug. 31, 2008, peacefully in his sleep at his home.

Boyd was born May 21, 1929, in Rexburg, the son of Money Lee and Florence Malinda Wilcox Yancey. He grew up and attended schools in the Rexburg and Minidoka areas.

On Aug. 22, 1952, he married Shirley Rigby in Parker. They made their home in St. Anthony, where they have resided for the past 55 years.

Boyd was active in community affairs. He served as mayor of St. Anthony, a city councilman for eight years, on the boards of the St. Anthony Free Fisherman's Breakfast for over 30 years, Fremont Men's Golf Association, Fremont General Hospital and Parks and Recreation and in the St. Anthony Youth Sports association. He was a former member and president of the St. Anthony Lions Club and was a longtime member and fire chief of the St. Anthony Volunteer Fire Department.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley of St. Anthony; children, Colin Lee (Angie) Yancey of Rexburg, Trent Bruce (Leanne) Yancey of Chester and Hali Melinda (Chad) Mackert of St. Anthony; sister, Ethel Todd (Ray) Lindauer of Burley; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and three sisters.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2008, at the St. Anthony LDS Stake Center in St. Anthony with Bishop Mike Carlson officiating. Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, both at the stake center. Burial will be in the Parker Cemetery under the direction of Bidwell Funeral Home.
