Emma wa a very slight woman. Her children and grandchildren called her "Robin" because she was so flighty and fragile.

Emma was a practical nurse. Perhaps the experience of caring for her mother, Carrie Winsor Viles for three years, gave her the desire to persue this profession. She loved to travel, visiting family and friends. After her husband, Fred died in 1944, Emma often spent time with her brother George Viles at Cowles, New Mexico. In 1966 she moved to Sagle, Idaho where her daughter Grace and her family were living.

Fred and Emma had two daughters: Grace Carol Robinson Dyer and Lois Estelle Robinson Williams.
