James Caldwell
Son of Jesse and Tabitha (Sims) Caldwell. James Caldwell married Ella Jane Gardner March 9, 1866. The 1870 census shows J. Caldwell (36 MS), Ella (24 MS). This family is found in Fayette County Alabama in the 1860 census. James Caldwell served in Co. I, 43rd Mississippi Infantry, C.S. A.

Jesse Caldwell (February 17, 1811 - February 27, 1834) was among early settlers in Lowndes County, arriving from Anderson County South Carolina around 1836-1838. He was married to Tabitha Sims (June 5, 1809 - March 18, 1867). This family is found in the 1850 census : Jesse Caldwell (39 SC), Tabitha (40 SC), John Lewis (16 SC), Mary (14 SC), Sarah (12 MS), James (9 MS), Walter (8 MS), Robert (6 MS), Martha A. (4 MS), Tabitha G. (1 month MS). The 1870 census shows theis family as: J. Caldwell (58 SC), John (36 SC), Sam (19 MS), Marha (24 MS), and Tabitha (22 MS). Another child was Lucy Long Caldwell who died as an infant in 1843. Children of Jesse and Tabitha (Sims) Caldwell were John Lewis Caldwell (Calistia Egger), Mary Elizabeth Caldwell, William Edmund Caldwell, Sarah Caldwell (Jonathan Smith), James Caldwell (Ella Jane Gardner), Walter Caldwell, Lucy Long Caldwell, Robert Caldwell, Martha Ann Caldwell (Christopher Columbus Smith), Tabitha Genevia Caldwell (Robert Archer Dowdle), and Samuel Wesley Caldwell (Kiziah Permelia Ann Wells).
