Columbus Daily Enquirer for Friday, November 29, 1861, page 3 says Death of A. S. Rutherford.---Our county has lost one of its best and most popular and useful citizens, by the death of this gentleman, which occurred at Montgomery, Ala., yesterday morning. Mr. Rutherford was at the time of his death, and had been for several years, Clerk of the Superior Court of Muscogee county; he had also been Sheriff of the county, was one of the delegates to the late State Convention that paassed the ordinance of secession, and had filled other important public trusts, all honorably and acceptably. The whole community will mourn his loss, for he was in every respect a good citizen--one who could not well be spared, and whose place as a public officer it will be difficult to fill. He had for some time been in bad health, but his friends indulged the hope that he was recovering when he left home. We understand that his remains will reach this city by to-day's train from Montgomery, for interment.

Columbus Weekly Enquirer for Tuesday, January 14, 1862, page 3, says GEORGIA, MUSCOGEE COUNTY.---Whereas Peterson Thweatt has applied for letters of administration on the estate of Adolphus S. Rutherford, deceased, late of said county---All persons concerned are hereby notified to show cause (if any they have) why the administration of said estate should not be granted to said Applicant by the Court of Ordinary, to be held in and for said county on the first Monday in February next. Given under my hand, this 31st day of December 1861, JOHN JOHNSON, Ordinary.
