Note: This is one of the most beautiful rural cemeteries I have seen. The GPS does not work great in this area, but you can find it at the intersection of Smith Chapel Road and Thompson Creek Rd that turns eventually into Hiltop road. Their graves are closer to the chapel side of the cemetery. cs

Mary Ann was the daughter of Hezekiah "Kyle" Bennett 1804-1880 and Jemima "Mima" Daniel Bennett 1810-1880.

Marriage record revealed Wm A Nix and Mary Ann Bennett married on Jul 27, 1866 in Bedford, Tennessee and we know that Mary Ann Bennett was the second wife of W.A. Nix.

William Alexander Means Nix, while married to his first wife enlisted on Oct 8, 1861 in the Confederate army and mustered out on April 8, 1862. His first wife passed away 1865. A year later, on July 27, 1866 in Bedford County, Tennessee, William remarried to Mary Bennett. He had five children by his first wife.: Ofilia Nix b. 1853, William AlexanderNix b. 1856; Joseph Nix b. 1858, Sallie Nix b. 1860, and Dora Nix b. 1865. Dora Nix was born the same year her mother passed away.

The 1870 census revealed William was a farmer. They were living in District 24, Bedford Co, Tennessee. Mary was born in Tennessee. Their personal property was valued at $800.00. Household members: William Mix (40), Mary Mix (25), Seely Mix (18), Joseph Mix (15), Alexander Mix (13), Sallie Mix (11), Dovie Mix (5), Hezekiah Mix (2) and Susan Mix (1).

The 1880 census revealed they were living in Hurricane, Moore Co, Tennessee. Household members: W.A. Nix Sr. (51), Mary A. Nix (39), Joseph Nix (21), Dorah Nix (14), John H. Nix (12), Mary Nix (11), Eugenia Nix (10) and Tennessee C. Nix (4).

Gravesite Details

Their graves are located closer to the chapel side of the cemetery about middle of the row. It is a very old grave marker and stands for both graves. Their daughter Tennessee Caroline Nix Bennett and her husband are next to them.
