Mr. Backues dies Friday
Alva W. Backues, 63, Belle, died Friday at the University of Missouri Medical Center, Columbia.
Mr. Backues was born Feb. 12, 1910 in Maries County, a son of John Henry and Nora Krewson Backues. He married Gladys Basham, who died in 1969. Later he married Daphne Ridenhour Groff, who survives at the home.
Mr. Backues was a retired farmer and mail carrier. He was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ.
Other survivors include: Three sons, Melvin Backues and Jake Backues, both of Richmond and Marvin Backues, Belle; two brothers, Jake Backues, Ferguson, and Tom Backues, Vienna; four sisters, Mrs. Bertha Lange, St. James, Mrs. Hilda Baumgartner, Belle, Mrs. Tillie Fragle, Ferguson, and Mrs. Nancy Beuhrlen, Belle.
Services will be 2 p.m. today at the Liberty Church of Christ, Brother Arvil Elrod and Brother J. E. Jackson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Jones Funeral Service, Belle.
