EMERY COUNTY- Cornelius Ekker 63 well-known, southeastern, Utah rancher died of natural causes Wednesday in his home here. He was born Jan 2, 1884, in Vernon, Tooele, Utah, a son of John G. and Marie( Van T0ll) Ekker. On Aug 28 1907, he married Edna Gibbons in Hanksville, Wayne County, Utah, where they settled and operated the Ekker Ranch. Mr Ekker also worked gold claims In southeastern Utah the past 20 years and owned a uranium mine.
From 1906 to 1910 he served a term as a United States mall carrier from Greenriver to Hanksville. At that time, mail was carried on horseback across the desert. He served on the Wayne County Commission from 1938 to 1939
Cornelius and Edna Ekker had 12 children: 9 sons and 3 daughters. Besides his widow, he is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Reba Geneal Burnett, Denver; Mrs. Julia Marie Cheskaty, San Diego, Calif., and Mrs. Gladys Louise Way nine sons, Harold E. Ekker Loa, Wayne County, Glen S., Wayne County, Sgt. Bruce H. Ekker, Brunswick, Maine, Arthur B. and Teddy Cornelius Ekker, Horace E., RIter C., Darys F. and Jesse G. Ekker of Hanksville, Utah, 31 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 1 p.m. in the Hanksville Ward Chapel Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints by William W W. Wells, bishop.
