My paternal Great Grandfather's name in Sweden was Svante Persson. He was the fourth of seven children born to Per Persson and Brita Eriksdotter. In 1893, at the age of 19, he immigrated from Hudiskvall, Sweden to St. Paul, Minnesota. He soon moved to Seattle where he worked as a moulder for the Olympic Foundry. Swan married Helena Olivia Bjorklund in Seattle on Oct. 15, 1899. The same year, he purchased a foreclosed farm on Mercer Island, Washington for $350. Four years later he established East Seattle's (Mecer Island) first and only dairy. Swan's eight children helped run the dairy and it was very successful, having over 70 cows by the 1930's. The dairy was closed in 1946. The land that was Swan's dairy, is now occupied by grocery stores, banks and mutimillion dollar homes.
