Mary was the daughter of Harvey Augustus Davis and Jessie Darrow Davis, and loving sister of Charles Edward Davis, Rosalie Davis Vollmer and living Davis Mott. She married Charles Jacob Affelder in Walkersville, Maryland on November 30, 1948. Mary had three children: David Robert Affelder (deceased) and two living daughters. She was a PFC in the WACs in WWII, stationed at Stark General Hospital as a member of the 403rd WACS Band, and then was a Hormel Band Girl. A graduate of Westminster College with a degree in music, she also attended George Washington University in Washington, DC. She was a talented musician and vocalist, and later performed with the American Light Opera Company in Washington DC. Mary was an active Unitarian Unitarian Universalist, a proud card-carrying member of the ACLU, and a brave champion of civil rights and peace for all. At her request her ashes were sprinkled on Mount Baldy in the Indiana Dunes State Park.
