Commander Peak was a 30 year United States Navy retired veteran. He served from 1927 until 1957, both in World War II and Korean War service. He was a "Mustang" (promoted from enlisted status) and saw service on the USS Barry, USS Dobbin, USS Melville, USS Saratoga CV-3, USS Chaumont, USS Oglala, USS Colorado BB-45, USS Lapwing AVP-1, USS Briscoe and the USS President Jackson APA-18. He was awarded the Navy Good Conduct medal, the Navy Expert Rifleman's medal, American Defense medal with bronze "A" and Fleet clasp, China Service medal, European-African-Middle Eastern campaign medal, American campaign medal, Asiatic-Pacific campaign medal, WWII Victory medal, Philippine Liberation ribbon, Navy Occupation medal with Asiatic clasp, Korean Presidential Unit Citation, and the United Nations Korean Service medal.
