FIELDING, Ronald Frederick "Ronnie"
FIELDING, Ronald Frederick "Ronnie" - With great sadness our family announces his passing on January 7, 2007. This was the only mountain Dad was not able to overcome. He fought a courageous battle with cancer for the past 18 months, with his wife (Lois) and family always by his side. Dad passed away at home with his wife and youngest son, Jeff by his side. Ronnie was born October 13, 1931, in Truro and was a son of the late Elroy and Winnifred Mae (Purdy) Fielding. He worked for over 37 years for the Canadian National Railway with the Signals and Communications Department before retiring. In his youth he played minor hockey in Truro, then moved on to junior hockey with St. Mary's in Halifax. He later spent one year in Ontario playing hockey. He returned to Truro and played with the Truro Senior Bearcats and the Bible Hill Dairymen. Later in life he was inducted into the Truro Sports Heritage Hall of Fame. His retirement years were enjoyed on the golf course especially Wednesdays with the seniors at the Mountain Golf Club. He was an active supporter and served as Director of the Truro Bearcats Senior Baseball team. He was a member of the U.S.T.A. He, for many years, was an owner, driver and trainer of race horses at the Truro Raceway. He was supportive of all his children's sport endeavors; Tim's hockey, football and baseball, Ronald and Kimberlea's equestrian riding and Jeff's hockey and baseball. He continued to be supportive with his grandchildren, who were his absolute pride and joy. He will be lovingly remembered and loved by his wife of 53 years, Lois (MacCulloch). He was a father to Tim (Beverley), Fredericton, N.B.; Ronald (Nelson), Tantallon; Kimberlea, Truro; Jeffrey (Stephanie), Forest Glen. He had nine grandchildren, Jessicca, Zoe, Gillian, Taylor, Justen, Cole, Luke, Libby, Isabella; three nieces, three nephews and several cousins. He will be lovingly remembered by his sister, "Sis" Patricia (Joseph) Howell, Riverview, N.B. He was predeceased by his brother, Herman Fielding (Ruby). Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 7-9 p.m.; memorial service on Thursday at 1 p.m., both in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro, with Rev. Andrew Crowell officiating. Interment in Bible Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Palliative Care Unit of Colchester Regional Hospital, the Canadian Cancer Society or charity of choice.
