Obituary : Independence Daily Reporter Newspaper - Wednesday, December 14, 1932 - Front Page - -Mrs. Ada Merchan* Grisham, 88, died last night at 9 o'clock of old age at her home, 204 East Maple Street, after a brief illness. Mrs. Grisham had been bedfast for five days, but her condition was not considered serious until 10 o'clock Tuesday morning, when she lost consciousness. Mrs. Grisham has been a resident of Independence 49 years, coming to Independence in the summer of 1883, making her home at 204 East Maple Street, where she lived until her death. Ada M. Merchan* was born in Columbia, North Carolina, December 24, 1844, the second of five children born to Rev. and Mrs. Colin Merchan*. She was married in 1895 to Carl Grisham of Coffeyville, who died in 1911. Mrs. Grisham was a member of the Presbyterian church. Surviving are five nephews: Dr. Robert Ewan of Lewiston, Ill.; Clate Ewan of Kiwani, Ill.; Colin Ewan and Roy Ewan of Cuba, Ill; and Colin C Ralstin of Stillwater, Oklahoma; two nieces: Caroline Ewan of Riverside, Ill.; and Ruth Ewan of Cuba, Ill. Funeral services will be held at the Potts' Chapel Friday morning at 10 o'clock with Dr. John L. Gehman in charge. The body will be sent to Coffeyville for burial.
