Lucille Cecelia Strande, 89, of Crookston, Minnesota, died early Thursday morning, March 19, 2009, in the Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, North Dakota.

Lucille was born in Lambert Township of Red Lake County, near Oklee, Minnesota, on November 27, 1919, and was one of ten children of the union of Onezime and Parmelia (Hince) Asselin. She grew up on the family farm, was baptized and confirmed at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Oklee, and attended school at Oklee. She was employed at Sovde's Grocery and Clothing Store and later at the Post Office, both in Oklee. On June 12, 1944 Lucille was united in marriage to Marvin Geard Strande at the parsonage in Oklee. After living in Oklee for two years Lucille and Marvin moved to nearby Marcoux Corner, and then on to Crookston. Lucille worked for a short time at Woolworth's in Crookston, and then for approximately ten years each at the S & L Store, J. C. Penney's, and the Eagles Aerie, retiring in 1981. She was a member of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception parish and the Ladies of St. Anne's Sodality, and a former member of St. Anne's parish. She also belonged to the Catholic Lady Foresters and a Birthday Club. Lucille was very active in the Crookston Eagles Auxiliary, and served the organization as president and holder of many other offices. She was honored as a Lady Eagle of the Year. Lucille was a very quiet, very kind lady, and the first to offer help whenever needed. She will be very sadly missed.

Family members include her loving husband of sixty-four years, Marvin; one sister-in-law, Madonna Asselin of Milwaukee, WI; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives, including a special niece, Kathleen Erickson of Solway, MN. Lucille was preceded in death by her parents; five sisters, Rose Lessard, Cora Rossignel, Celine Asselin, Bernyce Wicks, and Mamie Berberich; and four brothers, Joe, Tom, Walter, and Harvey Asselin. May God bless the memory of Lucille Cecelia Strande.

The funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm, Wednesday, March 25, 2009, in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Crookston with the Rev. Bob Schreiner, presiding. Visitation will be at the Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home on Tuesday from 5-7 pm, with a 7 pm prayer service, and also at the church for one hour before the funeral. Interment will be in the St. Francis Xavier Cemetery at Oklee.
