Jane's father William Hayes Steen fought and was wounded in the Battle of Kings Mountain, during the revolutionary War. Jane's mother Agnes was a widow when she brought her children to Mississippi in 1804. Jane was one of 10 children. Jane married Levi Noble in Tennessee and moved to Texas where they brought up a family of 6 children near Nacogdoches Texas. Her bother William Steen died at their residence in 1846, soon after he reached the state and is buried in the Old North Church Cemetery, 4 miles from their house. Levi and Jane then moved to St Augustine county where they lived for a while, and then again moved to Kaufman county Texas, where they both lived and died. Their two oldest children gained distinction and high rank in the Confederate Army during the Civil War. Jamison Noble became a Major and Levi attained the rank of Brigadier General in the Confederate Service. Jane's children were Jamison 1817, Levi George W. 1833, Sarah J. 1835 and Jefferson M. 1837.
