Johann "John", the son of Johann and Maria (Kunz) Tschannen, was born on August 8, 1843 in Radlfingen, Bern, Switzerland. The family came to America in September of 1888. Johann "John" was united in marriage to Maria Heimberg and were the proud parents of Johann, Johan also called John, Maria, Eliza, Anna, Rosa, Friedrich, twins; Ernst and Lena, Rudolf, Freda, twins; Emma and Bertha, and Albert. All the children were born in Switzerland except Albert, who was born in America. Their first son, Johann died in 1868 in Switzerland.
Johann "John" was a brother to; Albrecht, Christian, Maria, Magdalena, Rosina, Anna Marie, and Margareta.
The family made their home in Montgomery, Illinois on a farm where acres of red carnations for the dining cars of Burlington trains were raised.
Johann "John' also was a sheep herder for the stock yards.
He now joins his beloved wife, Maria who passed away on March 10, 1920, also three children; Ernst on May 3, 1898, Rosa on June 7, 1898, and Fred on September 28, 1912. Johann "John" shares a stone with Maria, Ernst, Rosa and Fred at Riverside Cemetery in Montgomery, Illinois.
