Romaine Hockett, 92, formerly of Union, died Wednesday, July 30, 2008, at the Good Samaritan Care Center in Olathe, Kansas. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, at Union Community Church in Union. Interment will be at Chester Cemetery.
Romaine was born March 10, 1916 in rural Conrad, IA, the daughter of Charles and Dora (Gough) Sisson. She grew up in the Conrad area, graduating from Conrad High School in 1933. On December 31, 1937, she was united in marriage to Paul Milton Hockett in Des Moines, and together they lived on a farm in rural Union. Paul and Romaine had two sons, Vernon and Ronald.In addition to being a devoted wife and mother, she was an active member of Chester Friends Church, Chester Missionary Society, Treasurer of Chester Friends Quarterly Meeting, and Secretary of Chester Cemetery Association. She enjoyed many hobbies including gardening, flowers, and quilting.Survivors include: her son, Vernon (Linda) Hockett of Olathe, Kansas; a daughter-in-law, Jan of Perrysburg, Ohio; five grandchildren: Lori Clark of Olathe, Kansas; Joseph (Sue) Hockett of LeClaire; Gregory (Stacey) Hockett of Peosta; Karen Hockett of Blacksburg, Virginia; and Mary Hockett of Lady Lake, Florida; five great grandchildren: Caleb and Nicholas Clark of Olathe; Clayton and Garret Hockett of LeClaire; and Ashton Hockett of Peosta.In eternal life, Romaine joins her parents; husband, Paul; and a son, Ronald.
