He played at the guard position for ten seasons (1964 to 1974) in the National Basketball Association with the New York Knicks, Detroit Pistons, Buffalo Braves and Kansas City-Omaha Kings. A standout player during his collegiate years at Bowling Green State University, he led the nation with a 36.7 points per game average for the 1963-1964 season. In addition, he helped lead the Falcons to two NCAA Tournament appearances. He was chosen by the Knicks in the second round of the 1964 NBA Draft and appeared in 742 career regular season games, with 7,550 points and 2,941 assists. He was selected to the 1964-1965 NBA All Rookie Team. Komives was inducted into the Bowling Green State University Athletics Hall of Fame in 1970. He died from a variety of health ailments.
