Siblings: Abraham and David

Isaac Barnhart was born in Floyd County, Virginia on March 6, 1844 to Daniel Barnhart and Anna Winger Barnhart. He moved with his parents to Wabash County, Indiana in 1853 when he was about 9, where he grew to manhood. He married Lucinda Peffley, the sister of his brother Abraham's wife, Lovina, on May 20, 1866, in Elkhart, Indiana, and soon after, he moved along with his parents and other family members to Franklin County, Kansas.

Kansas land records at the Franklin County Courthouse show that he and Lucinda owned several parcels of land near Centropolis. The first was a 20-acre farm at the corner of Thomas Road and Florida Terrace, one acre of which he deeded to the Pleasant Hill Cemetery trustees in 1869. In the same period he owned five acres north of Thomas Road between Indiana Road and Georgia Terrace, adjoining another five acres owned by brother David. In 1882, he owned an acre and a half just north, but accessed from Woodson Road. In April, 1882, Isaac and Lucinda bought 40 acres at the corner of Indiana and Shawnee roads, which they owned until they left Kansas for North Dakota in 1898 in the company of several Church of the Brethren families who settled near Egeland.

The 1900 Census shows Isaac living in Trier Township, Cavalier County, North Dakota, along with two sons, Albert, 17 and Thomas, 13, and daughter, Alice, 14. The same census shows Lucinda living in Towner County with their son, Oliver, 20, and daughter, Sarah Elizabeth, 24. Why Isaac and Lucinda were living apart is speculation, but perhaps to help Oliver "prove up" on his homestead property.

Isaac and Lucinda bought their 160-acre farm six miles north of Egeland not far from Cando, from Jeptha and Melissa Sharp in 1903. They farmed there along with several nearby family members until they moved to the Wenatchee Valley in Washington, again with a group of Church of the Brethren families in 1911.

Though Isaac and Lucinda lived on the "East Side," in Douglas County across the Columbia River from Wenatchee, there is no record of Isaac owning land in the county. Lucinda, on the other hand, acquired approximately five acres along Rock Island Road, south of the new town of East Wenatchee.

Isaac died on December 24, 1913 in East Wenatchee, Washington and was buried in the Sunnyslope Church of the Brethren Cemetery in Chelan County. Lucinda lived on for another 21 years, living with various sons' families until her death in 1934.
