Hugh Weir was born in about 1746, which is estimated based on the "aged 76 years" on his stone. He married Mary McKee, also buried here.

He is believed to be the son of Hugh Weir/Wear, Sr. and Elizabeth McEwen. Hugh, Senior died in Rockbridge Co. in 1799. Hugh Senior wrote his will in Mar 1779 in Rockbridge Co., VA.

He is mentioned is Page 277.--24th May, 1769. Jonathan Cunningham's will, of Carr's Creek--To wife Mary; to dutiful father, Hugh Cunningham. Executors, father Hugh and William McKee, testator's BROTHER-IN-LAW. Teste: HUGH WEIR, Nathan Peoples, Cornelius Docherty, Robert Hamilton. Proved, 20th March, 1770, by Weir and Peoples. William McKee refuses to execute. Hugh Cunningham qualifies, with Wm. McKee, John McKee. Lyman Chalkley's Chronicles of the Scotch Irish Settlement..., Vol. 3, p 112.

The McKee family bible says he died 14th Jul 1822 per The McKees of Virginia and Kentucky by George Wilson McKee, page 125, though his marker clearly says the 16th (It does not include any Cunninghams).
