Johnnie ("Junior" and "Big Johnnie" as he was affectionately referred to by family) received his schooling in Texas and accepted Christ into his life at an early age. He truly and sincerely believed in God.
Johnnie served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, serving a tour of duty in Japan. He received an Honorable Discharge in 1950. He was a member of the American Legion Post 511.
Johnnie was employed by the City of Fresno as a Recreational Leader for the past ten years.
Johnnie had a beautiful voice and loved to sing. During his lifetime he sang with many spiritual groups, including the Mighty, Mighty Clouds of Joy and the Cavaliers, in addition to the local spiritual groups in Fresno and Los Angeles.
Johnnie will be sorely missed by his friends and most of all his family who loved him. He departed this life on October 20, 2001 in Fresno at the age of 72.
Johnnie leaves to mourn his first wife, Jennie Wesley. He was preceded in death by his second wife, Doristine Wesley, and four children, Sharon Wesley, Jimmie Wesley, Jonita Wesley and Greg Wesley.
He leaves to mourn six sons: Aaron Wesley of Dallas, TX; Donald Wesley of Los Angeles, CA; Johnnie Wesley II, Tracy Matthews, Johnnie Wesley IV and Jonathan Wesley, all of Fresno; six daughters: Johnnie Mae Wesley of Oregon; Margaret Biddle of Compton, CA; Dolly Venabel, Sheena Berrones, Satrina Coleman and Felicia Wesley, all of Fresno; three brothers: David Washington of Los Angeles, CA, Fred Lee Wesley and Ephraim Jones of Dallas, TX; seven sisters: Marie Wilson of Wichita Falls, TX; Joann Mitchell, Vonnie Wesley, Jewel Wesley, Jackie Wesley, Dorothy R. We loved him, but God loved him best and we, the family must yield to the will of Almighty God and give thanks to Him for all the years that we had together.
