Estus L. Bates, son of Lucy Boze Bates and the late Revel Bates, was born May 2, 1923 in Alton, MO and died Nov. 26, 1995 in Springfield, MO.
He was married Jan. 24, 1948 in Alton, MO to Wanda Chronister.
He was member of the First Baptist Church in Alton, MO.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in Europe during World War II. He retired from the Missouri National Guard where he served with the 1138th Military Police Company. He was a Veteran Service Officer for 20 years and was a Juvenile Officer for 14 years, for the 37th Judicial District.
He was also a member of the VFW Post #1014 in Alton, MO.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda, of the home near Alton, MO; his mother, Lucy Bates of Alton, MO; two daughters, Wendelin Jean Carhart of Thayer, MO; and Christy Jo Casey and her husband Monty, of Alton, MO; and four grandsons.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 28, 1995 at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer, MO; with Rev. John Lewis Casey and Bro. Arvil Hill officiating. Burial was in the Smith Cemetery, Alton, MO under the direction of the Carter Funeral Home, Inc. of Thayer, MO.
