Philip L. Maurer, 65, a well known town of Schleswig farmer, died late Wednesday afternoon at this home, six miles east of Kiel, after being in ill health several months. Born in Schleswig Jan. 18, 1880, a son of the late Christian and Anna Mueller Maurer, he was married to Miss Katherine Kretsch of the town of Meeme on Dec. 9, 1916. Since his marriage, Mr. Maurer operated the Maurer homestead farm near Kiel. He was a member of the Schleswig Farm Bureau and the Union Cemetery Board.
Survivors are his wife; four sons, Kermit of Schleswig, and Philip Jr., Allan and Daniel at home; three daughters, Mrs. William (Bernice) VandeGrift, Manitowoc, Miss Katherine, at home and Mrs. Robert (Doris) Wilbert, Sheboygan; five grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Roland Schreiber of Town Meeme. His parents, two children, two sisters and two brothers preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at the Meiselwitz Funeral home, Kiel, with the Rev. William Hartwig, pastor of Zion Lutheran Church of Town Schleswig officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery.
