WALTER R. SCHILLING
Walter R. Schilling, 80, of 2207 Van Buren St., New Holstein, died Sunday night at Calumet Memorial Hospital, Chilton, where he had been a patient since Jan. 23.
A resident of New Holstein the past 27 years, he was born in Chicago on May 2, 1894 a son of the late Henry and Sophia Pickruhn Schilling.
The family moved to the Town of Schleswig, Manitowoc County, when Mr. Schilling was six years old. He attended rural New Holstein schools.
On June 16, 1920 he married the former Nellie Grabs in the Town of Schleswig. The couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1970.
Mr. Schilling, who was employed as a bricklayer, served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps, 54th Field Artillary, during world War I.
He was a member of St. John United Church of Christ, New Holstein, and the World War I Barracks of Chilton.
Survivors are his widow; a son, a daughter, five grandchildren; a brother, Carl Schilling of Grafton, a sister, Mrs. Elmer Spettel of Sheboygan.
Two brothers and a sister preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Erbe-Evjen Funeral Home, New Holstein, with the Rev. Albert K. Borns, pastor of St. John UCC, officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery,
