Obit: Mr. Carl Rudolph Zorn

At his home near Louis Corners, the well known Mr. Carl Rudolph Zorn died following a lengthy illness due to heart disease. With his death, we have lost a longtime, well-respected and prominent resident of Town Schleswig. Mr. Zorn was born on August 4, 1844 in Pommern, Germany and came to America with his parents in 1854, who settled immediately in Town Schleswig on 160 acres of land that they had purchased and over the time, they created a lovely farm which was later taken over by Mr. Zorn. On January 30, 1869 Mr. Zorn married Miss Johanna Heidemann and the marriage was blessed with three sons and four daughters, on these one son has died. Three years ago he sold the farm to his son George and since then he and his wife have lived nearby in a well-deserved retirement. Earlier Mr. Zorn took part in politics, for about 17 years he was town chairman and a prominent member of the county board. He was a member of the college of income tax appraisers. During the years of 1973, 1874 and 1876 he served as an assemblyman for the 2nd District of Manitowoc County at the Wisconsin State Legislature. Additionally for six years he was a director and ten years the president of the Town Mosel regional fire insurance society, and for many years he served as the town Justice of the Peace. He is survived by his now grieving wife, two sons, George and John in Town Schleswig and four daughters, Mrs. L. T. Voigt in Collins, Mrs. Rud. Ruppenthal in Hilbert, Mrs. George Arnold near Kiel, and Mr. George Mattes who lives in Rockville, also one brother and four sisters, and numerous grandchildren. The burial will take place on Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Union Cemetery in Town Schleswig with District Attorney Schmitz giving the eulogy.
