Opal Messenger was born February 25, 1890 on her Century Farm north of Keswick, to Halleck and Effie Higgins Messenger. She was a life-long resident of the Keswick community. She graduated from high school in Keswick in 1909.
Opal married Fred M. Smith November 15, 1911 in Keswick. He preceded her in death in 1971. She is survived by her three daughters, Mrs. R. Carl (Margaret) Schmidt and Mrs. Kenneth (Norma) DeBont, both of Keswick and Mrs. Harold (Phyllis) Barber of Marion. Also surviving is a brother Guy Messenger of Santa Paula, California; 12 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral Services were September 28 at the Keswick United Methodist Church with the Rev. Larry Pauley and Lynn Rumer officiating.
