Al Carnevale,69,died August 13, at his house in Bedford, Ohio. He was born in Parkersburg, West Virginia, on July 1, 1916, leaving this country at the age of five, for Carovilli, Italy, where he received his education. He returned to the United States when he was 19, making his home in Bedford, Ohio. Mr. Carnevale began his career as a carpenter at the Taylor Chair Company of Bedford, later working in a defense plant as an aeronautical engineer during WWII. In 1959 he formed Al Carnevale & Son Builders. He left many fine examples of his craftsmanship throughout the community, his proudest accomplishments the Bedford Gazebo on the Square and the Willard Park Pavillion at the Ellenwood Community Center, where he spent many happy hours since his retirement in 1981. He derived much pleasure from his yearly vegetable garden and labored many hours in his yard, creating a park-like atmosphere and enjoying the compliments and comments of family and friends as well as many passers-by.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, the former Mildred Guintoi, children Al Jr., Donna and Rich; grandchildren Alan, Michael and Kristie Carnevale, Lisa, Thomas and Robert Kropf, and Jordan Carnevale; brothers Angelo and Albet Carnevale of Columbus; sisters Lucy DiFrangia of Carovilli, Italy and Olga DeFrangia of Akron. Services were at St. Mary's Church, Bedford, August 16 with interment in Bedford Cemetery. Arrangements were by Johnson-Romito Funeral Home. (Bedford Times-Register, Thurs. Aug.22, 1985)
