It is with sadness that we chronicle the death of Virgil Coon who passed away Thursday morning at the St. Joseph's Hospital in Sioux City following an appendicitis operation on the previous Sunday. His sudden death came as a great shock to his relatives and friends, casting gloom and sadness over the community. Funeral services conducted by Rev. Webb were held in the Oto Federated Church Saturday at 2 p.m. Interment was made in the Oto Cemetery under direction of R. Hudgel, the Anthon funeral director.
Perry Virgil Coon was born near Cushing, Iowa, July 27, 1891, and died March 14, 1929, in a Sioux City hospital following an operation for appendicitis. On September 22, 1910, he was united in marriage to Miss Bessie Phillips, and to this union three children were born, Opal, Kenneth and Wayne, who with their mother remain to mourn. Mr. Coon has spent all of his life near Anthon and Oto. He was a member of the I.O.O.F. lodge. He was a devoted husband and a kind and loving father, and made the home a place of pleasure and happiness. Besides the immediate family he is survived by his father, Perry Coon of Oto; five sisters, Mrs. Florence Smith of Correctionville; Mrs. Mary Hayworth of Anthon; Mrs. Jennie Pierce, Mrs. Mabel Beeson, and Mrs. Iva Hayworth, all of Oto; four brothers, J.M. Coon of Collis, Minnesota; A.W. Coon of Smithland; A.E. Coon of Anthon and E.R. Coon of Oto.
Burial: 16 March 1929, Oto Cemetery, Woodbury Co., Iowa
