According to the records of Matthew Grant, the unnamed first wife of then "Capten Masen", later known as Maj. John Mason, d. at Windsor, Conn. before Mar. 10, 1638/9.

Capt. Mason arrived at Windsor, Conn. prior to November 1637, when he was elected a deputy from Windsor to the Conn. General Court. Thus, it is possible that the Capt. and his first wife m. somewhere in greater Boston, Mass. when Mason was still residing at Dorchester. However, there is no record in New England of their marriage. They had one child, a dau., who was given the male name of Israel.

In July 1639 at Hingham, Mass., Capt. Mason m. as his second wife, Anne Peck, the dau. of Rev. Robert Peck and Anne Lawrence. At the time Anne's father was the "teaching" pastor of the Hingham, Mass. church with the senior pastor being Rev. Peter Hobart.

Matthew Grant's records also state that four children of Capt. Mason were b. at Windsor, Conn. But, only three are of actual birth record at Windsor (Priscilla, Samuel and John by second wife Anne). Whereas Rev. Peter Hobart's Journal includes the 1639 marriage of Capt. John Mason and Anne Peck, it does not include the baptism of Capt. Mason's first child by his seocnd wife, namesake dau. Anne b. circa 1640. However, this does not preclude the child from having been b. at Hingham at her grandparent's home and that the child was bapt. there by her maternal grandfather instead of by Hobart, in which case the baptism would not be included in Hobart's journal.

This first child of Capt. Mason by second wife Anne d. of record at Windsor in 1640. This leaves the door open to an alternate interpretation of Matthew Grant's records at Windsor that the first of the four children of Capt. Mason b. at Windsor was dau. Israel, by his unnamed first wife. The other three children b. at Windsor were the previously named children by second wife Anne.
