Mr. Carl H. Asbury, 85, of Charleston went home to be with Jesus on Wednesday April 1, 2009, after a short illness in Hubbard Hospice House.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Delarma Detrick Asbury and Virgie Lee Clark Asbury; sisters, Clarice Asbury Bess and Elizabeth Asbury; brother, Cody Asbury; and nephews, Charles R. Bess, Carol Jean Bess, and Delarma Russell "Buster" Asbury.

Carl was a very good man and a very honorable man. He worked hard all of his life. He was a coal miner, steel mill worker, security guard and farmer. Carl also served in the U.S. Army with great pride during WWII.

He leaves behind three brothers, Manuel "Sam" Asbury of California, Cephas Asbury and wife, Lois, of Charleston and Harley Asbury of Charleston; four nieces and nephews, seven great-nieces and -nephews and four great-great-nieces and -nephews.

A tribute to the life of Mr. Carl H. Asbury will be 1 p.m. Saturday, April 4, at Gatens-Harding Funeral Home Chapel with Pastors Stanley Miller and Alvie Witt officiating. Burial with military rites will follow in the Clark Cemetery, Kellys Creek.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
