Pieter Jongsma was born in April 1881 in Sloten, the farmost smallest of the eleven (elf) cities (steden) of the Dutch northern province Friesland, located in its southwestern lake district, son of the 25 years aged carpenter's hand (timmerknecht) Pier Willems Jongsma and Trijntje Dam.

On 13 December 1900 skipper's hand (schippersknecht) Pieter Jongsma was assigned (toegewezen) for serving five years in the Dutch army, but it's quite likely he was eliminated by lottery because with number 8 he had drawn the highest lot of the municipality Sloten (with the least chance). His description was: 1 m 659 mm, oval face, low forehead, blue eyes, common nose and mouth, round chin, dark hair and eyebrows.

The 23 years aged mason Pieter Jongsma married on Sunday 20 November 1904 in his birth and residence place Sloten to the one year younger Metje Verbeek, born in the seaport village Lemmer in the upper southwestern part of Friesland, daughter of the in Lemmer local policeman (veldwachter) Klaas Verbeek and Margje Hetebrij. Pieter's father Pier Willems Jongsma was then still a carpenter's hand.

Pieter and Metje Jongsma-Verbeek had in the Netherlands the following children:
* Trijntje, 16 July 1905;
* Margje, 8 April 1907;
* Pier, 2 December 1909, Losser, province Overijssel.

The birth certificates (geboorteakten) of Trijntje and Margje couldn't be found yet (in January 2014); they weren't born in Sloten, Gaasterland, Doniawerstal, Lemsterland or Opsterland in Friesland, nor in Losser (incl. Overdinkel), Overijssel. In Gronau, Germany??

The family of mason Pieter Jongsma lived in December 1909 in Losser, province Overijssel, in the utter east of the Netherlands, very close to the German border. It's very likely that Pieter was laying bricks for new houses for the factory laborers in the booming textile industry in the very nearby German city of Gronau, which had the largest textile factories of Western Europe, established by the Dutchman Van Delden.

On 4 January 1905 Pieter's brother W(illem) Jongsma (25 y, carpenter) arrived on the SS Statendam from Sloten at the port of New York, Ellis Island. His destination was the Dutch settlement Roseland, nowadays a southern district of Chicago, Cook County, Illinois, where his brother-in-law Siebold Heidmeyer was residing. On 21 February 1907 his father Pier Jongsma (51, carpenter), his mother Trijntje (48), his siblings Fietje (23, servant), Bouke (17, carpenter), Foppe (15, cartwright), Gijsbert (12), Siebrickje (9) en Aukje (7) arrived from Sloten on the SS Noordam at the port of New York, Ellis Island. Their destination was Munster, Lake County, south of Chicago, in the upper northwestern part of Indiana, where Pieter's brother Willem Jongsma was already residing.

On 5 July 1910 Peter Jongsma (29 y, born in Sloten, Holland, mason), his wife Maatje (27, Lemmer, Holland), their children Kaatje (5, Idskenhuizen, Holland), Maatje (3, birthplace Losser) and Peter (0, birthplace Losser) arrived on the SS Potsdam at the port of New York, Ellis Island. Their last residence place in the Netherlands was Idskenhuizen [Friesland, Netherlands] and they were heading for Peter's father Pier Willems Jongsma, who was already residing in Hammond, Lake County, in the utter northwestern part of Indiana.

On 12 September 1911 their daughter Fannie was born in Indiana, very likely in Munster and on 16 October 1913 son Clarence in Munster, Lake County, Indiana.

In 1920 Peter Jongsma (38, Holland, immigrated in 1910), his wife Maggie (37, Holland), their children Cathern Jongsma (14, Holland), Margaret (12, Holland), Peter (10, Holland), Fannie (8, Indiana), Clarence (6, Indiana) and his father Peter Jongsma (66, Holland, immigrated in 1907) lived in North Township, Lake County, in the utter northwestern part of Indiana.

Peter Jongsma was naturalized on 23 March 1923 in Indiana, very probably in Lake County. His description then: 42 years, height 5 feet 8 inches, color white; complexion medium, color of eyes, blue; color of hair brown with distinguishing marks, none. Names, ages and places of residence of children: Margaret age 15 years; Catherine age 17 years; Peter age 13 years; Fannie age 11 years and Clarence age 9 years, all live with parents.

In 1930 Peter Gongsma (!, 49), his wife Matga (!, 48), their children Clarence (17), Fannie (19) and Peter (20) lived in Cedar Creek, Lake County, Indiana.

In April 1940 Peter Jongsma (58, watchman at a wholesale roofing plant), his wife Madge (57) and their son Clarence (26, Indiana, diceman (?) at a wholesale roofing plant) lived in own home, worth $2000, at Hebster Avenue in Hammond, North Township, Lake County, Indiana. They lived in 1935 in Lowell, Lake County, Indiana.

His wife Madge died in April 1944 at the age of 61 years in Lansing, nowadays a southern suburb of Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. Peter Jongsma died in September 1960 at the age of 79 years in Lansing too.
