President of the Concord National Bank and the Concord Telephone Company. Through his efforts, and his relationship with the Cannon family, of Cannon Mills, they were able to save the Bank during Bank failures of the depression. It thereby became the oldest national Bank in North Carolina. Later it would become First Charter National Bank, finally merging with Fifth Third Bank to become one of the largest Banks in the Nation. The Coltrane family were financially supportive of Appalachian State University in Boone, NC. A dorm is named in their honor.
