Brad Hastings was one of the most if not the most decorated football player in Texas Tech history. He played for Tech from 1983-1986. He was first on the all-time tackle list with 480 when his career was over. He was an honorable mention All-American in 1985 and third-team All American in 86. He was unable to make it to the NFL because of multiple knee surgeries. If not for those injuries, Hastings would have been a star in the world of football.

In 1986 the Kansas City Chiefs had him in training camp where he suffered another knee injury. That was the one that "did it" for him. He was a fierce competitor who at 6-foot-3 re-defined the linebacker position at Texas Tech. A 1983 Arlington Bowie graduate, Hastings was a Parade Magazine High School All-American recruited by several notable schools, including Notre Dame, but to everyone's surprise he chose Texas Tech. He played in the annual Blue-Gray college all-star game in 86.

When he played he was the very best linebacker in the Southwest Conference and back then there were some really good linebackers in the Southwest Conference.
