Had Been in Poor Health For Several Months --Died Saturday

Jacob Alber, who had been seriously ill at his home on west Jefferson street for several months, passed away Saturday afternoon. Mr. Alber retired from farm life about three years ago, and moved to this city of take life a little more easily. He had lived for a number of years in the Amish settlement south of this city, and was considered one of the stable, reliable sort of men. He was trusted implicitly by his neighbors.

Mr. Alber, in addition to his farm work, was a carpenter by trade, and had charge of the work of building a large number of houses on the farms in his neighborhood. He was a good workman, one of the kind that was told to build a house, and the job entrusted to him entirely. He built a church for his neighbors under the above conditions. Mr. Alber was a successful farmer, and succeeded in accumulating considerable property.

Jacob Alber was born near Cleveland, Cuyahoga county, Ohio, October 9,1853, and died at Sterling, Kansas, July 24, 1920, aged 66 years, 9 months and 15 days.

In 1879 at the age of 24 he came to Kansas and settled in Stafford county, near Larned. He was married in the spring of 1882 to Miss Mary Kleck, of Larned, who came to Kansas in 1879 from Archibald, Ohio, with her parents.

In the fall of 1882 Mr. and Mrs. Alber moved to Reno county, southwest of Sterling, where they made their home until they moved to this city a few years ago.

Mr. and Mrs. Alber were the parents of twelve children, eight sons and four daughters, only one of whom preceded the father in death. The children living are: Edward who lives at Nickerson; Dave, on the farm southwest of Sterling; Anna, now Mrs. John Albright, of southwest of Sterling, John, at home; Charles, at home; Edna, now Mrs. Eli Miller, living near Lincoln, Nebr.; Albert, living in this city, Clara, now Mrs. Jesse Miller, of near Lincoln, Nebr.; and Willis, Roy and Wilma, at home. All of the children except Clara were present for the funeral services.

Beside the above named children Mr. Alber is survived by his faithful wife, twelve grandchildren, four brothers, two sisters, and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at the family home on Monday afternoon, in charge of John Flickinger, and the body laid to its final resting place in Cottonwood cemetery. Six sons of the deceased acted as pall bearers.
