Anna (Schwar) Sandoz (Mrs. Paul F. Sandoz) Obituary
Rushville Standard, Friday, December 28, 1923

Obituary (Republished by request)

Death of Mrs. Paul F. Sandoz, nee Anna Schwar, born August 26th, 1856, in Switzerland.
In her youth she received a chistain training from her pious parents. Grown to virginhood she entered matrimony with Mr. Paul F. Sandoz on Aug. 26, 1876, at age of 20 years. Fourteen years later, in the year 1890 she came to United States, where they arrived, at Hay Springs, Neb., on Easter Sunday. They found their home 17 miles southeast of Hay Springs, where she resided until her departure. She was a member of the Lutheran Church and appeared to be a faithful believer and was loved and esteemed by all. For a considerable time, she had been feeling ill, caused by a water tumor lying on the intestine. After consulting the best doctors, she consented to the doctor's advice to undergo an operation in St. Joseph's Hospital of Alliance for the above named cause, and in addition to it for appendicitis on Sept. 12th, 1923. However, for a while it looked as though she would recover again and the doctor permitted her wish to return home November 5th. But in the latter part of the week she gradually began to decline in health and was again confined to bed. The doctor was called, but apparently began to look at her condition with a critical eye. On Sunday she felt again somewhat better. But a back-set occurred in the evening and the next day from which she did not recover. The doctor was called again, and the kind nurse, Mrs. Tilbury. She gave the most tender-hearted care but in spite of all she speedily declined in health. At one o'clock a.m., November 14, the pastor was called. At 3 a.m. she received the Holy Communion. At 4:20 a.m. she departed under the tears of her beloved husband and children and a farwell song of Mrs. Tilbury and prayer of Rev. Woelber, at age of 67 years, 2 months and 17 days. We are confident in heart that the Savior has carried her soul to life eternal.
She leaves to mourn, her husband and five sons: Pete, Felix, Gustav, Henry, Constant; two daughters, Mrs. Julius Eckerle (Lena) and Miss Marguerite Sandoz; fourteen grandchildren alive, and two sisters in the old country.
Grant God that each and every one of us dare meet her in the presence of Christ in the land of bliss. Services were held at the home at 12:30 p.m. and the remains laid to rest at the Pine Creek Cemetery (Swiss - Beguin Cemetery on Pine Creek) Nov. 15th, 1923. The funeral was largely attended.
