Son of Benjamin Rider and Achsah Crosbe of Greenwich, MA. He was a soldier in the Revolutionary War and a deacon of the church. In 1816 he moved west to Chardon where he bought and cleared 800 acres of land. He married Sarah Pratt on 10 Apr 1788 in Hardwick, MA.
