T. F. Thompson was born in the Republic of Texas to his father from Tennessee and his mother from North Carolina. He served honorably in the Confederate Army from 1861 to 1865 in Company G, 5th Calvary "Tom Green's Brigade". He took part in scrimages in New Mexico, Louisiana and Texas. On Aug. 11, 1865 he married Angelina "Annie" Bell who was born in Florida but resided in Bellville, Austin County. They moved to Hempstead with son Bell, their first child, in 1874 where T.F. set up a livery stable. Later he also became an undertaker and served the citizens of Waller County in this capacity until about 1920. He died at age 86, still holding the office of vice president of the Tom Green Brigade Confederate Veterans Organization where he rarely missed a reunion gathering of surviving veterans and their families. He remains one of Hempstead's oldest and best known citizens.
