Born on August 7, 1907, Adna was one of several Children born to Floyd and Sarah Jane Allen Jones from the community of Buckhorn Creek. On July 12, 1933, Adna Jones was married to Thomas J. Gabbard against her wishes. She had been employed as a teacher on Quicksand Creek for more than a year in the Breathitt County School system. According to the family, she did not want to marry but felt pressured. During her honeymoon night, Adna took a revolver and committed suicide by shooting herself through the left breast while sitting at the kitchen table. She was buried near her childhood home on Buckhorn Creek. Her grandfather, Alfred A. "Smokey" Allen, made all the arrangements and can be seen setting at the head of the casket with the white mustache. Her husband, Thomas Gabbard is standing at the head of the casket in a black suit.
