She married Evan L. Copeland, MD in 1940 and assisted him in his medical practice in Decatur, MI. for 15 years. In Decatur she was on the School Board, was a leader in the PTA, Campfire Girls and the Decatur Dance Club.
After moving to Gainesville in 1961 she became a Travel Agent and worked in that field for 30 years where she had many loyal customers and friends. She proudly belonged to and served on the Board of the Southern Scholarship Foundation in Tallahassee for 25 years. She was an active member of the Pilot Club of Gainesville and under the umbrella of the Southern Scholarship Foundation was instrumental in getting the first house for girls, the Pilot House, on the UF campus.
Dorothy was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship and was active on their Social Concerns Committee. She was passionate about social injustice and remained so until she died. She will be missed by her family and friends and remembered for her tireless community service.
She was preceded in death by her husband Evan L Copeland, and her daughter Paula Dianne Reed. She is survived my her son, Dr. Richard Copeland of Tallahassee, and her daughters, Marsha Boyd of Gainesville and Nannette Hoskins of Fort Worth, TX, 8 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
A graveside memorial service will be held Sat, April 18, 11:00an at Forest Meadows Cemetery, Rev. Jack Donovan presiding.
