Houston, Texas--Former Emporian Larry W. Brooks of Houston, TX, died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2008, in Houston of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was 53. Mr. Brooks was the owner of and coach at Houston North Gynmastics since 2001 and a business associate since 1994 with DI Corporation of Houston. The son of Orville and Reba Stroud Brooks, he was born April 19, 1955, at Ottawa. He graduated from Emporia High School i 1973. He married Terry Renae Browning on May 19, 1978, at Emporia. She survives. Mr. Brooks was a member of the New Harvest Church of Houston. He is also survived by his father of Emporia; two sons, Nicholas Brooks of Houson and Christopher Brooks of Oklahoma; one daughter, Erica Brooks-Goedde of San Marcus, Texas; two sisters, Linda Brooks-Keck of Emporia and Sharon Brooks of Kodiak, Alaska. His mother died earlier. The memorial service to celebrate his life will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Northwood Presbyterian Church in Houston. The family will meet friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Klein Funeral Home in Magnolia, Texas. The family suggests that, instead of flowers, memorial contributions be sent in care of Terry Brooks, 12031 Moorcreek Drive, Houston, TX 77070.
